They say if you can make it in New York, you can make it anywhere.

Which is fitting since, in “CSI: NY–The Game,” an adventure video game for PCs which Ubisoft is releasing Nov. 18, it really will be up to you—to solve five new crimes written especially for this game, that is.

Thankfully, you will have some help, as the cast of the CBS drama are not only appearing in the game, but they’re doing their character voices as well. Just don’t ask them to play with you, as we found out when we spoke to "CSI: NY" star Gary Sinise, who’s apparently too busy being the show’s star, producer and occasional writer to play games.

When you were first approached about doing the voice of your character Mac Taylor for this game, did you worry they might turn the show into a shooting game?
I actually wasn’t sure. I have never done a video game before, so I wasn’t sure what they were going to put in the game. But when I sat down to do it and saw what they were doing, it seemed very interesting and the stories were very much in keeping with our show.

How was recording Mac's voice for this game different from acting as him on a set?
Very similar to doing dialogue replacement, which we do sometimes for certain scenes in each episode. But also slightly different as I was telling a complete story. Almost like a radio play.

How did the script for the game compare to the ones for the show?

Very well. We have some great writers on the show, but the folks who wrote these scripts clearly did their homework and had some fun all their own.

Do you think the cases in the game could be an episode of the show?
Yes, they are all in the spirit of the kind of show we do.

Besides starring in the show, you're also one of its producers and have even written two episodes. How involved did you get in the game’s development?
None at all—I came in and recorded my voice.

Given that you're not into video games, did you make any suggestions about it that made the development team think you might be a closet gamer?
No, the only little changes in my lines that I suggested were received well, but I think they all could tell I was not into games like this.

Is there anyone in the cast who is into games, and who’s very excited to be in one themselves?
I think A.J. [Buckley, who plays lab tech Adam Ross] might be into games. But I am not sure if anyone else is.

Finally, do you think you might play this game, or are you worried that it might be a gateway drug and that in a year from now your castmates will have to have an intervention because you're spending all your time in your trailer playing “Far Cry 2”?
Fat chance of that happening! But then again, I hear this is a really good game, so never say never I guess.
