First off ,Giuseppe and his son Vito never owned another establishment..They stole recipes from another place in cobblestone village after he worked there...Giuseppe is a bread maker and always will be...They make their chicken stock from scraps such as the things we throw away..They always fight all the time when I worked there..Vito always degrades the ladies that come in there with sexual harrassment and told everyone he was with my wife...They take huge shortcuts and if you could see how they make their food you wouldn't believe it...Don't eat here...

LarryPernini wrote about Old Man Rafferty's

Back during the summer (yea, this isn’t a very timely review) I went to their Hillsborough location with a friend and ordered something I thought would be quick, easy and ‘safe’ . . . a cheese burger medium well done. When I received my burger and I cut in in half, it was visibly red in middle with its meat juices flowing. So, I understand this sometimes happens, and I inform my waitress that my burger is not medium well done, and she agrees with me (she was very nice), and takes my burger back to the kitchen. Then, the general manager (who I find out later has over 15 years’ experience at her job) comes over so she can make sure just exactly what I wanted to be done to my burger, since as it was served to me, it was "a perfectly made medium well burger". Wow! What ever happened to the customer is always right? . . . not to mention the burger was visibly red in the middle, dripping juices, to myself, my friend, the waitress and the manager with her 15 years of experience. So, I have to explain to her that if this is perfect medium well burger, then I want my cooked more (no kidding this, this really happened to me – even my friend was shocked at her rude behavior . . . like I was the idiot here). I then get my recooked/new burger, cut it in half, and guess what, well it’s no longer red, but still very reddish and dripping juices! The waitress is horrified and offers to once again take it back once again. I thanked her and said let’s just forget it and ate the outside of the burger and left with my friend. So, due to my horrible experience, I decide to write the owner and explain what happened, since based upon my 55 years of eating hamburgers, I never knew that medium well was red and dripping juices, not to mention I wanted to inform him of his managers rude behavior. He replies, defends the actions of Hillsborough manager, and tries to baffle me with culinary verbiage explaining to me that all of their protein is check with “3 second thermometer” and it should have an “internal temp of 155 degrees, an industry and culinary standard for medium well” . . . well OK, thanks for temperature reading, but what about the fact that the burger was red a dripping juices. I swear this is all true and have the email chain to prove it. Net net, the moral of my story is: IF YOU WANT A MEDIUM WELL HAMBURGER AT OLD MAN RAFFERTY’S, BE PREPARED TO SEND IT BACK . . . AND EXPLAIN YOURSELF TO THE MANAGEMENT SINCE YOUR DEFINTITON OF MEDIUM WELL IS NOT AN INDUSTRY OR CULINARY STANDARD!

bulldog109 wrote about George-Lu Chinese Restaurant

George Lu's was a really great , moderately priced restaurant with great food. After George tragically died, his brother Vincent tried to maintain the tradition of this once-fine restaurant. Now the workers are gone, the tables are clothless, the ambiance is non-existant. The food is still good. However, the "family owned" description may not be the same family that originally owned this establishment. It is good for pickup and delivery but not for dining there. The ambiance lacks character and charm.

bulldog109 wrote about Cammareri's Famous Brooklyn Bakery and Cafe

The creative writing in the preview is really imaginative. The tables are two card tables pressed near each other with the first one right by the entrance door where a cold draft hits you every time the door opens. "Cozy" yes if you like having customers backs almost in your face while you try to enjoy the "ambiance". The store has good products and good people. But get real! the store is extremely narrow and is nothing like the pretentious platitudes drawn for the reader. Extremely disappointing in presentation only.

Everything at the Flaky Tart in Atlantic Highlands is amazing. The croissants and pie crust are buttery and true to the French standard of pastry making. But get there early. Everybody in town knows if you want an almond croissant you need to be there at opening. My husband is not able to walk out of the shop without a full box of delicious goodies. If you want something for a special occasion make sure to order it before hand as each day a horde of locusts seems to have passed through there!!

First time was thick second time was watery so we wanted to make sure they were thick this time. Staff was annoyed when we asked them to be made thicker because they were too watery. Then the owner came over and said that it costs alot of money to remake stuff and they really don't like making milkshakes so if we didn't like it we could take our patronage elsewhere!!! We asked why it was on the menu if they did not w Like making them. She said it was to accommodate all patrons. Really?!? Then why tell them not to come back?? Is that really serving a purpose? If you can't handle the order then don't take the $$ for it. They had no problem taking our $27.

erikag23 wrote about Whispers

My husband and I have be coming to Whisper's for the past 3 years. In fact, it is one our favorite restaurants! We have introduced Whisper's to many family and friends over the years who have also become very fond of their food and atmosphere. My husband requested that we go here for his birthday with his immediate family, our 1 year old daughter and nephew. When I made the reservation, I requested the fist seating (530pm) and also the private room: 1.) We were a large party and 2.) We had 2, 1 year old children and did not feel the main dining room would be appropriate for them or the other guests. When we arrived, we immediately felt an uncomfortable vibe from the staff. It was obvious that they were not happy there were 2 young children in our party. We specifically requested the private room for this reason (we were the only party dining in that room) so the children would not be confined to their seats the entire meal and disrupt the other patrons. Our food was rushed and we were out the door in about an hour which is pretty fast for a party of 10 with several courses. Upon leaving, my father-in-law expressed his dissatisfaction with the maître d' who was less than professional. I called today to speak with the owner/manager, Nick, who happened to be the 'maître d'' we chatted with on Saturday. I explained that I wish his staff would have communicated that they preferred no children when I made the reservation (which I made one month in advance); I would have been disappointed, but would have much preferred their honestly. Instead, he screamed saying that I was an awful parent who let my child and nephew run around like "ANIMALS" and that they were a danger to his staff. I am still in shock as I have never been spoken to like this before. He ended his conversation stating that my family and I are never welcome in his restaurant again. I'm appalled. I guess he feels his business is doing well enough that he can speak/behave in such a disgusting manner.

MyName wrote about Crab Shack

Seafood in store seems very freshly caught, but pricey. There are only a few bare tables inside and some picnic tables outside. Lobster roll was priced higher than other area restaurants at about $11.00. It was not the expected chunky lobster overflowing on a butter toasted hot dog roll, but instead was very finely shredded lobster drowned in too much mayo on a soft hamburger roll. The side of cole slaw that was included was a really tiny lidded cup with more liquid than cabbage. People working there seemed a bit disorganized. The baskets of crabs had very lively crabs that looked great.

SuitNtie wrote about Sunsets

This is the first negative review that I have ever written but the service or should I say lack of service that I received tonight was horrible.  Made reservation for 7 pm and arrived 5 minutes early.  Host said the wait would be 10-15 minutes so we sat at the overpriced bar and gladly waited.  After 35 minutes we finally were told that our table would be ready in 10-15 minutes. After a total of 45 minutes we were taken to our table where the manager threw our menus and walked away before we were even at the table.  The rest of the story is totally my fault because I should have just left at this point.  Instead like idiots we sat and viewed the menu and noticed a lobster special that sounded good.  So we sat....and sat...and sat some more.  Thirty five minutes more....no waiter in sight.  I found the manager and told him but he did nothing. Ten minutes later we grabbed a waiter who passed by and he apologized for no one serving us and took our drink order.  Upon returning with our drinks we asked if we could order since we had been there for ove an hour and twenty minutes.  All of us ordered the lobster special only to find out that the last lobsters had just been ordered by the adjoining table that had just been sat.  It was now that I finally wised up and went to tell the manager of our displeasure.  He offered a very lame "I'm sorry" so I asked to see the owner who I had seen when we first arrived.  The manager returned from the kitchen without the owner because he said "he had no time for me".  My only advice to anyone reading this is simple....don't be the fool that I was, just don't go!  In today's economy, customer service is a necessity and Sunset's has none.  I dine out 3-4 times a week and have never seen such a poorly run restaurant.  Lastly, I left one star simply because ZERO STARS was not an option.

mmmcandy wrote about Lighthouse Pointe Restaurant & Bar

Extremely disappointed!! I have been to this establishment many times and just had the worst experience. Food is ok (something you could find in any tourist trap) and our waiter was nice but the manager and the hostess need a lesson in manners. I received coupons for this place as a gift. I did NOT perchance them myself. The coupon ticket read "1/2 price food and drink, MINIMUM amount $25.00". Our bill came to $215 and I then produced the coupon. When the bill was returned to me, the discounted rate read "189..." I then reworked the amount based on the wording on the coupon (1/2 price), which again read "1/2 price food and drink, minimum amount $25.00". When I approached the waiter, he indicated that the MAXIMUM amount was $25.00 off (not what the coupon read). I then asked for a manager who proceeded to tell me the same thing even though I pointed out several times what THEY had printed on the coupon. She became very nasty and told me that all I would receive off was $25.00, even though the ticket said otherwise. She then said “next year we will make sure this is clearer”…Really? Next year? What about honoring what it reads now? Now just to put things into perspective...I was at this establishment 2 days prior and the actual wording on the coupon was HONORED ($84.00 bill was cut in 1/2). Seems to me even their own staff is a bit confused. The manager wanted to know which staff member charged me half price but I refused to tell her since I was sure this waiter/waitress would be in trouble. I finally paid the bill minus $25.00 just to avoid a bigger scene. Upon leaving this establishment I once again approached the manager who was standing with the hostess and expressed the fact that what THEY had printed was not indeed honored and that I felt this was wrong on their part. I was told by the hostess "NOT to come back"! Very rude and very unprofessional in my opinion, however, I certainly will NEVER return to this restaurant/bar! Buyer of their promotions beware!!

In the past I have been a loyal customer, but was recenty sold a poorly made sub made by the senior family member in this deli business. I called to complain and he hung up on me. I am disappointed with the lack of effort made to resolve my problem. The subs are marginal but are cheap. I know places in the area with better quality subs for only a little more money, using Thumanns or Boars Head meats. Sorry I will not go back there. I wish the rest of the sub eating world would wake up and care about the quality of the subs they buy. They are influenced by convenience of the location of the store.
