Welcome to the debut review by the Pizza Patrol.

That's the name of the pie-lovin' staffers at Metromix Jersey Shore who from time to time will be providing the lowdown on pizza places in the Garden State.

First up is La Rosa in Tinton Falls. Chicken, burgers and salads make up the bulk of the La Rosa menu, but it also includes seven brick-oven pizza choices.

Earlier this week, the Pizza Patrol ordered a large pie -- half plain, half pepperoni -- from La Rosa, and here is what everyone had to say.

Graelyn Brashear: This pie was what I call "burrito pizza" -- so limp that the only easy way to eat is to roll it up. As a tomato lover, I thought the slices were pretty anemic, and even several napkin blottings couldn't take care of the puddles of grease. Still, the crust was delightfully chewy, with tasty bits of baked-on cheese.

Chris M. Junior: Pizza shouldn't be shiny, but you could almost see your reflection on this greasy pie. There definitely was more cheese than sauce, and that line of tomato sauce just before the crust was sorely missed. The plain slices still tasted OK, but this isn't the type of pie you'd brag about to your friends. You're much better off trying one of La Rosa's thick, juicy burgers.

Renee Ernst: The pizza lacked tomato sauce but certainly not grease. Each piece of pepperoni served as a great way for the grease to pool, and I could literally hold the pizza upright and watch the drippings fall onto my napkin. While there was a liberal amount of pepperoni, I wouldn't say that was enough to make up for its flaws. But if you're hungry and not too picky, a La Rosa pie will satisfy your stomach.
