If you love cracking claws and tearing tails, try these Shore restaurants, which specialize in steaming and baking lobsters for seafood savorers, satisfying that craving for fresh deep-sea flavor.

Red's Lobster Pot

A trip to seafood-savvy Red's Lobster Pot in Point Pleasant Beach adds a personal touch to the claw-crunching experience.

Although small in stature with only 12 tables in the dining room, what this family-owned lobster joint lacks in size, it makes up for in variety. In addition to the popular 2-pound steamed lobster served with coleslaw and linguine marinara for $21.95 per pound, Marty "Red'' Stillufsen and his family use their lobsters in everything from $9 omelets to $15.95 lobster salad sandwiches to $16 lobster quesadillas.

Receiving their lobsters directly from a dock adjacent to the restaurant, Red's lobsters migrate immediately from cage to tank, remaining in ocean water to preserve freshness, according to Kitty Philipp, Stillufsen's daughter.

Red's also offers lobster fritters, cakes and chowder, as well as a $13.95 lunch special of a 1-pound steamed lobster served with cole slaw.

Klein's Waterside Cafe

For a finely crafted clambake, make a trip to Belmar and stop in at Klein's Waterside Cafe.

Priced at $30.95 and served with four clams, shrimp, mussels and scallops as well as a 1“-pound Maine lobster, Klein's clambake isn't the only popular item, according general manager Tod Vitalis. Another top seller, says Vitalis, is the $24.95 seafood diablo, a half
lobster served with shrimp, scallops and clams over linguine in a spicy marinara sauce.

Klein's also offers steamed lobsters: a 1“-pound at $19.95, 1•-pound at $26.95, and 2-pound at $37.95. Receiving their lobsters from Canada, Maine and New Jersey, Klein's serves their catch with coleslaw, vegetable and choice of seasoned rice, baked potato or waffle fries.

The Pilot House

With several unique dishes, the Pilot House in Brick puts a spin on flavors of the sea.

The "perfect storm,'' their most popular dish, according to owner Mike Tufariello, combines lump lobster meat with sauteed jumbo shrimp in a tomato-basil cream sauce served over linguine with baby peas for $18.95.

From their lobster tank, which houses 20 to 25 lobsters, the Pilot House serves 1“-pound and 2“-pound lobsters steamed for $23.95 and $39.95 or baked and stuffed with choice of seafood, crab or scallop stuffing for $3 extra.

In addition to lobsters from Maine, Canada and New Jersey, the Pilot House also offers Brazilian twin lobster tails shipped directly from South America for $31.95. Dinners are served with garlic mashed potatoes, a seasonal vegetable and choice of soup or salad.

The Shipwreck Grill

For a ship-shape Monday night bargain, chow down at Brielle's Shipwreck Grill.

Prepare to munch on a 1-pound steamed lobster served with boiled potatoes and corn on the cob for $19.95 each Monday during Shipwreck Grill's lobster night.

Also offering broiled or stuffed lobster, Shipwreck Grill currently charges $20 per pound, according to co-owner and chef Terry Eleftheriou. Brazilian lobster tails also are available, $19 for a single and $36 for twin tails.

Shipwreck Grill's most popular dish, says Eleftheriou, is their surf and turf, an 8-ounce filet mignon and a 6-ounce Brazilian tail served with potatoes and corn for $42. Shipwreck Grill features a large lobster tank in between the bar and dining room that can hold more than 50 lobsters.
