Air, 'Le Voyage Dans La Lune'
The French ambient musicians have built a career on near-infallible good taste. Frequent collaborators with filmmaker Sofia Coppola, Nicolas Godin and Jean-Benoît Dunckel have contributed songs to acclaimed movies like "The Virgin Suicides," "Lost in Translation" and "Marie Antoinette"—so while composing a soundtrack wasn't out of character for the duo, the source material was an ambitious commission. Translated as "A Trip to the Moon," the 14-minute film is regular fodder for students in Film 101—a pioneer in special effects directed by George Méliès and his brother in 1902. Air's soundtrack—a little more than 30 minutes in length—accompanies a new restoration of the film which is included in the album's purchase. –LM
