Jimmy Vivino of the Max Weinberg 7 and the Fab Faux
"It stinks like beer, and it's sweat and beer and it's still a version of soul music and rock 'n roll that sort of merged. A lot came out of inspiration from the Young Rascals, and I don't have to say that it's blue-eyed soul, in a way. Blue-eyed soul and Chuck Berry sort of mixed together.
"And then Bruce (Springsteen) brought in this sort of (Bob) Dylan, Van Morrison mix into it, so it's got all those. When I first heard Bruce I thought of Dylan and Van Morrison in a lot of ways. It sounded like soul music to me, too. ... But really, when you listen to Bruce's records a lot of it is rooted in the sound of Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels, which was a blue-eyed soul rock 'n' roll band, and it's blue-eyed rock and soul, that's what I would call it because of, I don't know, the melting pot of Jersey. It's such a melting pot kind of place."
