Jason's regulars to reunite in Asbury Park

Jason's regulars to reunite in Asbury Park
Anyone who's ever proudly labeled themselves as part of a scene can attest to how much it hurts when the members of that scene loose their home base. During its time on Main Street between 16th and 17th streets on Lake Como, which former owner Mel Hood described as "a great 30-year run," it's sure that Jason's Jazz Club attracted a loyal and devoted following of devout local jazz and blues fans before shuttering its doors on Dec. 30, 2003.

Review: Cheech and Chong at the Paramount Theater

Review: Cheech and Chong at the Paramount Theater
About midway through their performance at the Paramount Theater in Asbury Park on Saturday night, recently reunited comedy duo Cheech and Chong treated the crowd to a performance of the first bit they ever performed together on stage, "The Old Man in the Park." And while many things have changed over the years for both the performers and their audience, the bit, just like most of what was presented on stage on Saturday night, is still really, really funny.

Billy McCarthy's bartending lessons

Billy McCarthy's bartending lessons
He may be rocking appreciative live crowds for a living these days, but Pela frontman Billy McCarthy didn't always depend on his musical gifts to pay the bills. In fact, the northern California native and current Brooklynite used to earn his keep by tending bar, and in a recent conversation with Metromix Jersey Shore, McCarthy filled us in on some of the lessons he learned during his days behind the bar.

While Gene Ween is on the road without his longtime partner in crime, rocker and online fishing show host Dean Ween, the band has released the perfect stocking-stuffer for the Ween fanatic in your life, "At the Cat's Cradle, 1992."

No stranger to performing other artists' hits as a member of Bobby Bandiera's Rock-N-Soul Revue, Monmouth County singer-songwriter Bob Burger will be bringing a covers show of his own to Asbury Park later this month. Burger and company will perform "Second Hand News: A Tribute to Fleetwood Mac" at 8 p.m. on Jan. 30 at Tim McLoone's Salt Water Beach Café on the Asbury Park boardwalk.

Review: Meat Loaf at the Paramount Theater

Review: Meat Loaf at the Paramount Theater
Sure, Meat Loaf gave the people what they wanted on Friday night (Dec. 5) when he served up plenty of his biggest hits during his show at Asbury Park's Paramount Theater. However, from the evening's opening number - a cover of the Eagles of Death Metal's "I Want You So Hard (Boy's Bad News)" - it was clear that the singer and his band were determined to keep things interesting.
