TromaDance is coming back to Asbury Park, and it needs your help.
Now in its thirteenth year, the independent film festival is set to return to Asbury Lanes on Fourth Avenue in the city by the sea for the third year on May 4 and 5. TromaDance may be the most egalitarian celebration of cinema out there: there's no VIP policy to be found, admission to all screenings is free and audience members find themselves on equal footing with celebrity guests.
The festival has set up a Kickstarter campaign online to raise funds in support of the event, with plenty of rewards available to donors, ranging from free admission to the TromaDance after-party at the Lanes and collectible DVDs to a round of bowling with TromaDance founder and Troma Entertainment president Lloyd Kaufman.
Over its time in Asbury Park, TromaDance has hosted the North American premiere of the controversial horror film "The Human Centipede" (2010), an appearance by Oscar-nominated animator Bill Plympton and a crowd-pleasing late night screening of the experimental shocker "The Taint," which was recently picked up by Troma Entertainment and will begin screening in select theaters this spring.
