Although it's impolite to stare, with finely tuned hot rods cruising Shore streets, its tough to turn away. Gatherings of vintage automobile owners and their cars are setting up shop throughout the Shore. With different cruises occurring on different nights throughout the summer, the wait is never too long for car enthusiasts to view their favorite coupe, sedan or muscle car in top condition.
Point Pleasant Beach Classic Car Cruise
Car-lovers flock to Arnold and Bay avenues from 5 to 9 p.m. July 10 and Aug. 7 to receive an automotive blast from the past at the Point Pleasant Beach Classic Car Cruise.
"You really get a small-town feeling with everyone walking around and dancing and talking to the guys about their cars. Everyone really seems to enjoy it.'' said Carol Vaccaro, executive director of the Point Pleasant Beach Chamber of Commerce.
With Ed Austin performing 1950s tunes to compliment some of the era's finest vehicles, a trip to the Point Pleasant Beach car cruise is like a step back in time. According to Vaccaro, crowd pleasers of the night are original 1950s police cruisers as well as Jeeps and Corvettes. Assistant to the council Ed Nigota brings his 1979 white Cadillac Coupe de Ville to the show.
"(The cruise night) is a way to show off your toys and hang out with your friends,'' he said.
Local eateries will be on hand selling hotdogs and pizza and the three most popular cars, as voted by patrons will receive trophies.

Cruisin' Downtown
On the second Wednesday of each month, classic cars line Washington Street downtown Toms River for Cruisin' Downtown. With more than 200 vintage automobiles and 100 motorcycles, Cruisin' Downtown has something for everyone according to Gary Stabile, president of the Vintage Automobile Club of Ocean County.
"The popular cars vary by age group,'' Stabile said. "The older people look at the cars from their time, like the 1950s, while the younger ones look at the big muscle cars.''
Other crowd drawers says Stabile are a 16-cylinder Cadillac and a Stanley Steamer, a 1930s vehicle built to run on steam. The cruise is from 6 to 9 p.m. each month and allows only cars built before 1984. Cruisin Downtown offers live Doo-Wop style entertainment as well as an Elvis impersonator. The event is free to the public and features food such as hot dogs, chicken nuggets, funnel cakes and fried Oreos for purchase.
